Album: July 1, 2012 Severe Thunderstorm approaching Hampstead, NC (3)
July 1, 2012 was a significant severe weather outbreak for southeast NC and northeast SC. The instability that was observed that day was phenomenal - for instance the Convective Avalable Potential Energy was in excess of 6000 J/kg! These pictures were taken in Hampastead as the anvil from a severe thunderstorm northwest-north of the area begin to spread overhead. The mammatus clouds were very impressive for the coastal Carolinas.
